> Split a PDF on iPhone into single pages, or extract just the pages you need into a new file. Built-in tricks plus a free browser tool, no upload.

To split a PDF on iPhone, open it in Safari's free Split PDF tool to get one file per page, or use Extract pages to save just the pages you choose (for example 1, 3-4) as a new PDF. iOS has a few built-in workarounds, but none of them splits a document cleanly in one step.

Splitting comes up all the time: sending only the signed page of a contract, uploading one statement out of a year-long export, or breaking a scanned bundle into separate documents. Here is what works on an iPhone and where each method falls short.

## What the Files app and Markup can and can't do

Open a PDF in Files and you can view the page thumbnails, rotate or delete pages, and add markup. On recent iOS versions you can also insert a blank page or a scan. What you can't do is say "save pages 4 to 6 as their own file". The usual workaround is to duplicate the PDF and delete every page you don't want, which is slow and error-prone on a 40-page document.

## The Print trick for a page range

1. Open the PDF and tap **Share**, then **Print**.
2. Tap **Range** (or the page options) and choose the pages you want, or untick the ones you don't.
3. Spread two fingers on the preview to open it as a PDF, tap **Share** and **Save to Files**.

This gives you one new PDF with the selected pages. It is fine for an occasional range, but it re-renders the pages through the print system, so form fields and links may not survive, and you repeat the whole process for every piece.

## Split every page into its own file

[Open Split PDF](https://filevale.com/split-pdf/)

1. Open Split PDF in Safari and tap the drop area, then **Browse** to pick the PDF from Files, iCloud Drive or a download.
2. Tap **Split**. Each page becomes its own PDF.
3. Save the ZIP to Files. Tapping it in Files expands it into a folder of single-page PDFs.

The pages are copied as they are, not printed again, so text stays selectable and the quality is unchanged. The file is processed inside Safari and never uploaded.

## Extract only the pages you need

[Open Extract PDF Pages](https://filevale.com/extract-pdf-pages/)

1. Open Extract PDF Pages and add the file.
2. Type the pages you want, for example `1, 3-4` or `10-12`.
3. Tap **Extract** and save the new PDF.

This is the right tool for "send them pages 2 and 7". If it's easier to say what you *don't* want (a cover page, blank pages, an appendix), use [Delete PDF Pages](/delete-pdf-pages/) with the same number and range syntax and keep the rest untouched.

For regular use, [the free Filevale iPhone app](/go/ios?src=g-split-pdf) has split and page extraction built in, working on-device from the share sheet.

## A worked example: one bank statement out of twelve

Your bank exported a year of statements as one 36-page PDF, and a landlord wants only March. Find March's page numbers in the Files preview (say 7 to 9), open Extract PDF Pages, type `7-9` and save `statement-march.pdf`. It takes under a minute, and the other eleven months never leave your phone.

If you later need to put pieces back together in a different order, see our guide to [merging PDF files](/guides/merge-pdf-files/). And if the extracted file still needs to go through an email limit, [Compress PDF](/compress-pdf/) shrinks it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you split a PDF on iPhone without an app?

Yes. The Print trick lets you pick a page range and save it as a new PDF, and browser tools like Filevale's Split PDF and Extract PDF Pages work in Safari with nothing to install. The browser tools keep text selectable and handle many pages at once, which the Print trick doesn't.

### How do I save one page of a PDF on iPhone?

Open Extract PDF Pages in Safari, add the PDF, type the page number, and save the new file. Alternatively use Share, Print, select that single page and pinch out on the preview to save it as a PDF. Both leave your original document unchanged.

### Does splitting a PDF reduce its quality?

Not with Split PDF or Extract PDF Pages, which copy the original pages without re-rendering them, so text, images and links stay as they were. The Print trick does re-render pages, which can drop form fields and links, although the visible quality is usually fine.

### Is it safe to split confidential PDFs in a browser?

With Filevale it is, because the PDF is processed inside Safari on your iPhone and never uploaded to a server. Contracts, statements and medical records stay on your device. Close the tab when you're done and the file is gone from the page.
