Many people print a "free" QR code, put it on menus or business cards, and find months later that it leads to an upgrade page. That happens because some generators create dynamic codes: the QR code points to the generator's own short link, which then redirects to your website. When the trial or subscription ends, the redirect can stop.
A static QR code is different. Your link, WiFi details or contact card are stored inside the pattern itself, so the code works for as long as the content is valid, with no server in between. Filevale (filevale.com) makes static codes only, for free and without an account.
Make a QR code that never expires
QR Code GeneratorCreate a QR code for a link, WiFi, contact, email, SMS or WhatsApp. Free, private.Open tool- Open QR Code Generator and choose what the code should hold.
- Enter your link or text. Shorter content gives a simpler, easier-to-scan code.
- Pick colors and size, then download a PNG for screens or an SVG for printing.
The code is generated in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.

WiFi, vCard and WhatsApp codes
If you came from QR Code Monkey or QR Code Generator looking for specific types, Filevale has a dedicated tool for each:
- WiFi QR Code: guests join your network by scanning, no password typing.
- vCard QR Code: a contact card for business cards and badges.
- WhatsApp QR Code: opens a chat with your number and an optional message.
- QR Code with Logo: adds your logo in the center while keeping the code scannable.
More types, including email, SMS and phone, are on the QR code tools page. For printing tips for WiFi codes, see How to Make a WiFi QR Code.

Static vs dynamic: which do you need?
- Static (Filevale): free, never expires, works offline, but you cannot change the destination after printing. If the link changes, make a new code.
- Dynamic (paid services): you can edit the destination and see scan counts, but the code depends on the provider staying in business and your plan staying active.
For menus, WiFi, business cards and posters with a stable URL, static is the safer choice.
On iPhone and iPad, the free Filevale app also makes QR codes on-device. A Mac app is coming soon.
